Now that I’m becoming a seasoned sex toy reviewer, I’m less easily impressed than I was when I started. I love being shown things that are really different. BDSM on a Budget has been an awesome primer for me on BDSM toys, and it let me to this little beauty:
22 ways to make you go "FUCK!"
This is a pinwheel, aka a Wartenberg wheel. A staple in sensation play, this little pleasure/torture device is a wheel of 22 tiny little sharp points. When rolled lightly over the skin, it has a very tickley light sensation. Pressed a little harder, it gives deliciously devilish pinprick sensations in a nice neat line wherever you steer it.
This is a fun toy because it is versatile. You can vary the angle, pressure, and speed for VERY different sensations. Could you draw blood with it? Probably if you wanted to, but you’d really have to press very hard. If you’re into blood play, please use a disposable one or figure out a way to sterilize this guy. This little guy is sharp enough to puncture the plastic bag it comes in and to leave marks on my skin that vanish within seconds.
The Chef used this one on my back and butt after we tried out the rubber paddle I just reviewed. I lay on my stomach and he traced it from my upper thighs up my stinging, red butt, up the small of my back, up my spine, to my neck. He did it very slowly, and with enough pressure to make me squirm a little. The wheel squeaked ominously. I’m sure you could oil it if it bugged you, but I think it enhanced the experience. He traced my sides, my back, my butt, my thighs… all of it was intense and slow and focused and wicked and lovely.
This pinwheel is all stainless steel, which looks a lot better than some of the plastic-handled ones I’ve seen elsewhere. It is fantastic for awakening the senses. The Chef, a seasoned kinkster and master of sensation play, says that pinwheels are one of his favorite toys. At $20, I say it’s pretty freaking fantastic.
It looks intimidating, so don’t spring one of these on a kink newbie without a little preparation. If you’ve got someone who’s up for it, this is a really fun toy for those who have been very bad- or very very good. If you’re looking for something a little more discreet and/or less medical-looking, Incoqnito has a really cute looking sensation wheel thing here. Personally I prefer this one, because it’s cheap and, frankly, scares me a little. And I like that.
